Tennessee courts do grant alimony in appropriate cases, to both men and women. Either party can get an award of spousal support if the situation warrants it, and there are specific factors that the court must consider in determining whether an award of alimony is appropriate in any given case.
It's important to consider alimony and property division at the same time. These are both ways to transfer assets from one partner to the other but they have distinctly different tax consequences. The more assets your family has, the more significant this distinction will be.
